A rhinoplasty or nose surgery is a surgical procedure that manages to restore aesthetic harmony to the nose.
Some aesthetic disorders, such as the so-called “bony hump” (the protuberance protruding from the back of the nose), deviations from the nose, nasal tip shape abnormalities, birth defects, nasal trauma, and certain diseases which affect this organ can be treated with a rhinoplasty.
When the problem is a nasal obstruction with difficulty in breathing due to a deviated nasal septum or, a septoplasty will be used. Rhinoplasty and septoplasty can be used together, in the same surgical act, this is called a septorhinoplasty.
There are mainly two types of approach in rhinoplasty: open and closed. Depending on the cases you can choose one or the other type of approach. The closed rhinoplasty was described in 1904 by Jacques Joseph. In it all the incisions are made inside the nostrils, not presenting external scars. The open rhinoplasty was pioneered by Emil Rethy in 1934. In it an incision is made at the base of the nose, resulting in an almost imperceptible scar.
After the surgery, the patient will remain with a splint that will prevent movements and movements, ensuring an optimal aesthetic result. The patient should take antibiotics and analgesics for a week.

NOSE SURGERY REDUCTION
The nasal dorsum may require an increase, decrease or alignment. The reduction rhinoplasty or reduction of the nasal dorsum is indicated in those noses that present the so-called “witch profile”, with a prominent back that interferes with the correct facial harmony.
This is the most common type of rhinoplasty. It consists of the removal of the bone and cartilage that make the nasal dorsum present a “hump” or protuberance.
Decreased nasal dorsum may be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia, as desired by the patient and / or according to the complexity of the surgery.
NOSE SURGERY AUGMENTATION
The augmentation rhinoplasty, which involves the enlargement of the nasal dorsum, is usually required in people with a small nasal bridge, such as individuals of Asian or African origin.
This type of procedure can also be performed on patients with post-traumatic deformities or those who have undergone previous rhinoplasty with excessive recession of the nasal back.
In order to increase the nasal dorsal it is common to use the cartilaginous grafts that are obtained from the nasal septum or, in their absence, the cartilage from the ear or from a rib of the own patient. These grafts are introduced and placed on the nasal back to increase its volume.
The augmentation of the nasal dorsum may be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia, as desired by the patient or according to the complexity of the surgery.
