Surgery of the nasal septum or septoplasty is an operation that facial plastic surgeons perform very frequently and it is needed when there is a breathing problem or snoring problem that does not go away without a surgery.
It is often caused by a deviated septum, which interferes with the passage of the air throughout the nose. This surgery involves the removal of the septum cartilage or bone below the nasal mucosa.
A rhinoplasty and septoplasty operation can be performed during the same surgical procedure, which is then called a septorhinoplasty. This surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia although in selected cases it can also be executed with local anesthesia with sedation.
